USING THIS DISC
If you're reading this, chances are you've already started the Browse Thumbs program. This text will appear whenever you start Browse Thumbs to look at the pictures on this disc; you can close it at any time and keep the main window open.
Using Browse Thumbs is easy. The main window contains "thumbnail" pictures--these are small versions of the pictures. You can scroll down through the thumbnails by using the scroll bar on the right side of the window. If you see a picture you want to look at, just click its box; after a few moments, a much larger version will appear on the screen. You can scroll around this window by using the scroll bars. If a description is available for the picture, it will appear in a second window. Closing the picture window also closes the description window.
When you're finished looking at pictures, you can close the Browse Thumbs window.
DE-INSTALLING BROWSE THUMBS
If, for any reason, you need to de-install Browse Thumbs, you can do so by double-clicking the "Install & Remove" icon in the "Browse Thumbs" group. This will remove the only file Browse Thumbs has placed on your hard drive, and remove the "Browse Thumbs" group from the Program Manager.
USING THESE PICTURES IN OTHER PROGRAMS
The pictures on this disc are stored in high-quality 24-bit Targa format. Most software that can use 24-bit pictures can use Targa images, so you should be able to open the images directly from your favorite graphics package.
All of the pictures on this disc are grouped into three directories. The THUMBS directory contains the thumbnail images used by Browse Thumbs. The MIDSIZE directory contains the larger pictures displayed by Browse Thumbs; these will be somewhere near screen size. (The actual size varies from picture to picture.) The FULLSIZE directory contains large pictures (about 1500x1000) intended for use in serious work.
ONE MORE NOTE
These images are all 24-bit images. If your display is set to 256 colors, Browse Thumbs will "dither" the images to 256 colors, which you may see as a pattern of lighter and darker colors. This is not a problem with the pictures, or the software; this is how it's supposed to work. If you can switch to a display with 65,536 or 16 million colors (16-bit or 24-bit), Browse Thumbs will display the full color of the images without dithering; this makes the pictures look MUCH better!

REVISION HISTORY
Version 1.1, November 7, 1994:
ò Images are now gamma-corrected for display on VGA monitors. This brightens the darker colors to bring out the detail in the pictures, and makes them appear better. This is done only for display purposes; the Targa files on the disk are stored without this gamma correction. Good graphics packages will offer a similar feature.
ò Picture windows are now centered on the screen.
ò Text for each image may now be present, making it easier to identify the image content.
ò An obscure bug which produced slightly garbled displays in mid-size picture windows containing only a vertical scrollbar when that scrollbar was moved to the end position was fixed.
